Holga Show 3.0

Thirty one images from twenty-seven artists constitute Photomedia Center's third annual "Holga Show". I was fortunate enough to have two images selected this year, "Vernal Pool" and "Sassy".
Looking at the images side-by-side, my guess is that the judges are big fans of empty black space. :) Check out the entire show, including many images without a lot of empty blackness, at

rose and blew a bunch of snow from the trees

Spill #2

Most of the stuff I post here is shot with one of my Holgas. But I love my Bessa R3A with the f1:4 Nokton lens, which I almost always shoot with wide open. I love the surreal bokeh that this lens offers. This image was taken in the Whip Hill section of the Middlesex Fells Reservation, just north of Boston, Mass.
The film (FP4) was stand processed in R09 (Rodinal formula) for two hours at a dilution of 1 to 200. The stand processing really subdues the extremely contrasty early morning light in which this image was taken.

591 Show

591 photography gallery is a site I check out on a daily basis. When Ulf Fagelhammar asked me if I would like to show some of my work there, I jumped at the opportunity. Ulf does a great job with this site and I encourage everyone to take a look at not only my work, but the work of other photographers as well.
Thanks for looking.

Morning Pool

When I was in Prince Edward Island in July, my
beach photos consisted mostly of fog, rain and
clouds. But in August the sun came out and stayed out for two weeks. This is an early morning shot of a tidal pool on Darnley Beach,
in Lower Darnley, PEI.

This is a flow from a tidal pond, or barachois,

It always reminds me of the Waterboys song (That Was the River) This Is the Sea.

Fudge

When I asked him if he would mind if I took a couple of
photos of him, John was more than accommodating.
While I was taking photos, he explained to me how
"that sweater place" had used him to model in one of their
catalogs. I asked him if it were one of the local island
sweater shops. "No", he said, "I think it's called Land's End".
I told him that I hoped he was well paid for his modeling
and he just smiled.

The Demise of Kodachrome

I think this is where I am supposed to wax poetic about the Kodak officially pulling the plug on Kodachrome after seventy plus years. Two things...

If I read one more blog or see one more internet site article that quotes that awful Paul Simon song, then I am taking hostages.

Secondly, my guess would be that ninety nine percent of those waxing poetic about the demise of Kodachrome have not shot a single roll of Kodachrome in the last ten years. I know that I haven't.

My opinion...I always thought that Kodachrome was a real pain in the ass to scan.

Shameless Plug

If you are an obsessive toy camera user like me, you are probably familiar with the fabulous publication Light Leaks. The theme for the new issue is "Road Trip", and I was fortunate enough to have my image "Ghost Town" published in this edition. My image is on a page with three other equally strange images, including one by the fantastic toy camera photographer Bill Vaccaro, and two great images by Mark Fisher and Susan Lirakis. This is a particularly great edition of Light Leaks, so get it while you can. The last few issues have been completely sold out.
